IntermediateComing SoonMyrrh–β-Cyclodextrin Inclusion Complex with Silver Nanoparticles: From Natural Product to Nano-Enhanced System
How do we transform a natural substance known for centuries into a new chemical system that can be studied and improved? This scientific episode explores the technique of inclusion complex formation, starting with what a complex is and how it forms, and its wide applications in pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic, and analytical fields, such as improving solubility and stability and masking unpleasant odors. It then walks through a practical experiment forming a complex between myrrh and β-cyclodextrin, confirming its formation using UV-Vis spectroscopy, and determining the 1:1 binding stoichiometry with the Benesi–Hildebrand method. The episode concludes by studying the system in the presence of silver nanoparticles, known for their antimicrobial properties, and examining how concentration and pH affect complex formation. An episode that brings together natural product chemistry, nanotechnology, and chemical analysis in a single research system.
