siRNA-mediated gene knockdown is a transient gene-silencing technique that reduces expression of a specific gene in cultured cells. Synthetic siRNA duplexes are delivered into cells using a lipid-based transfection reagent and loaded into the RISC complex, which recognizes and degrades complementary mRNA. The method is widely used to study gene function, disease mechanisms, and target validation in drug discovery.
